"Grilled Everything" BLAT Sandwiches

As the name suggests, you'll grill everything in this fun take on a BLT sandwich. Turkey bacon is flavorful but fabulously lean, so you can grill it without worrying about flare-ups. Six ingredients, 20 minutes -- fire up the grill any day of the week.


  • 4 ounces turkey bacon
  • 1 firm-ripe avocado, halved and pitted
  • 1 medium tomato, cut into 4 thick slices
  • 4 large leaves romaine lettuce
  • 4 large slices sourdough or rye bread
  • Plenty of mayonnaise (to taste)
  • Sriracha, optional


Heat grill to medium-high and lightly oil the grates. Because turkey bacon is so lean, you can grill it directly on the grates if you like without risk of flare-ups, but I prefer to set my 12-inch cast iron pan on the grill. Add turkey bacon (in two batches if necessary) and grill, covered, until browned on the underside, just a few minutes. Flip and grill until browned on both sides and gently crisp.

At the same time -- or right afterward if you prefer -- lay the avocado halves on the grill cut-sides down, along with the bread, lettuce leaves and tomato. Grill for just a minute or two until lightly charred, flipping bread and lettuce once.

Slather two slices of the bread with mayo (and some sriracha if you like). Layer bacon, slices of avocado, tomato and lettuce onto each and top with remaining bread. Cut sandwiches in half and serve right away.
