Ingredients

  • 1 ½ cups (210 grams) frozen strawberries
  • 2 tablespoons (30 ml) freshly squeezed lemon juice
  • ½ cup (113 grams) plain Greek-style yogurt
  • 2 tablespoons (40 grams) strawberry jam
  • ½ cup (120 ml) cold water

Instructions

  • Add the strawberries to your blender. If you're using a regular blender (as opposed to a high-speed one), you may want to slice them.
  • Add the yogurt, lemon juice, jam, and water.
  • Blend until perfectly smooth.
  • Pour into a glass and serve right away.

Notes

  1. Frozen strawberries are the workhorse of this fresh and fabulous smoothie. Strawberries are always right at the top of the dirty dozen, so use organic ones if you can (or, if you're the luckiest person alive, pick and freeze your own).
  2. I use plain Greek-style yogurt made with whole milk for its creaminess and tang. You can use any fat percentage you prefer, or swap in a plant-based version (such as cashew or coconut) for a vegan smoothie.
  3. A little bit of strawberry jam (or use raspberry) balances the flavor profile while still leaving this smoothie quite tangy. You can adjust the proportions according to your taste.
  4. Freshly squeezed lemon juice, along with the yogurt, adds the lemony tang you expect from lemonade.
  5. A high-speed blender like a Vitamix or Blendtec makes so many kitchen tasks easier and better, but you absolutely don't need one to make a basic smoothie like this one. If you're using a regular blender, you may want to slice the strawberries before blending.
  6. Smoothies are at their best shortly after blending. But if you need to make this recipe in advance, you've got a couple of options. Store it in a regular cup in the freezer for up to an hour or in an insulated, lidded cup in the fridge overnight.
