We got our hands on some contraband this week, and I don’t mind tellin ya that I’m feeling pretty guilty about it.
Although the gorgeousness above was, in fact, the view from our bedroom window one night last fall. Well, without the words in the sky. With the words, it’s a more accurate depiction of the view inside my head some days. Anyway, the contraband in question was something like these. From Mexico.
And these. From Chile.
And these. From “USA.”
Plus a little California rainbow chard. In NJ. In the middle of bleakest February. I know, I know. Pure evil, right? I can’t remember exactly when I started feeling debilitating guilt for serving fruit salad to my children, but, in fact, I do. And between the guilt, and the week off from school for the dead Presidents, and the alarming number of new bells and whistles I’ve added to this website in the past week (speaking of which, be sure to keep arms and legs inside the vehicle around here from now on for your own personal safety, while you print, email, share on Facebook and buy me on amazon.com) – I’m afraid there’s really nothing to see here this week. No recipes, no stories, nada. I’m sorry! Have a good week, and I’ll see you on the 24th.

Florida strawberries are always good around now, and I tell myself that Florida is _almost_ local. Right? Because…um, because Florida strawberries taste better than California ones? Or, er, because so many people in NJ also have homes in Florida?
MomVee, I bought some Florida strawberries this afternoon on your suggestion. They’re quite good! You’ll find me vehemently denying these statements in May.
Can anyone advise as to how I can contact Amanda or Tyler from Whatweareeating.com? I am desperately trying to get my hands on the Santanas California Burrito recipe but the link on the page is broken!
Please help?
Hi Recipeman, http://www.whatwereeating.com is a good food blog, but we’re not affiliated. Good luck!
Santana’s California Burrito recipe from Recipezar.com(seems right on to me)
Ingredients
1/2 cup carne asada meat, chopped up
sour cream
10 French fries (should be larger softer french fry not hard and skinny.)
2 ounces shredded cheddar cheese
1 flour tortilla
Directions
1Make sure meat, french fries and tortilla are fresh and warm.
2Fill tortilla with carne or pollo asada add fries, sour cream and cheese.
3Serve immediately.
4Enjoy!
Additionally the santana’s california burrito has a homemaed tortilla that comes off as a little thinner and drier than those you find in a grocery store. I personally don’t believe you can get the real flavor unless you can mimic this tortilla. I wish i knew how
